Students

In the current year, students from 9 countries are following the MA (TESOL) program.

Students taking the Certificate in TESOL come from a wide range of backgrounds: some are starting out on a teaching career while others have teaching experience but feel the need for professional training.

The July-August 2006 Advanced Certificate program was taken by Chinese senior teaching faculty from Kunming University of Science and Technology, Southwest University for Nationalities, and Tianjin Foreign Service University.

What students say about the MA (TESOL) program:

Hongzhi (TESOL student)

HongZhi (China)

"The courses here are challenging, but if you can arrange your time well you will enjoy studying here.  I have learned a lot.  It's a good choice."

Jason (USA)

"I decided to return to school after working for twenty years. My experience at Payap has been pretty painless. The small classes enable individual attention from the instructors. The focus on assignments rather than tests means that more thought and effort is required on the part of each student. I heartily recommend the Payap learning experience to anyone intent on becoming a better teacher."

Werawan (TESOL student)

Werawan (Thailand)

"I chose to study at Payap University because the courses are taught in English and the technologies provided by the university here are advanced compared to other universities in the north of Thailand. I also enjoy the opportunity to learn from my classmates who come from different corners of the globe. These past two years have been a great learning experience for me."

Michael (USA)

"Though my experience at Payap University in the MA program was somewhat unique due to the fact that I studied there on a (time-limited) one-year fellowship, and have since returned to the US to finish my degree, I would recommend it to nearly all prospective candidates with little hesitation. For me, the Payap degree program was very academically challenging and intellectually rewarding - there is a high quality of teaching and theoretical/practical guidance provided by the professors, whose background and preparation as a whole I consider exceptional, while the student colleagues I worked with and befriended came from a diverse, fascinating range of nations and prior professional experiences. The experience of living and studying abroad can be difficult, to be sure (even though I had done it in Europe and Latin America before going to Thailand). Nevertheless, I felt well-supported by the TESOL Department faculty personally as well as academically, and I never had a problem 'fitting in' to the general campus and social atmosphere at Payap."

Michael (TESOL student)

"I think the MA (TESOL) program there offers an excellent chance to learn, grow, and develop new knowledge in the language teaching field, and the fortunate opportunity I had to do so amidst the extraordinary Thai people and traditions is an experience I will never forget."

Xu Yi (TESOL student)

Xu Yi (China)

"My experience of studying in the TESOL MA program at Payap University has been very valuable for me, and I have learned a lot. Before I chose to study here, I had planned to apply for universities in Britain and Australia. However, the high study and living expenses delayed me and a friend recommended this program. I will never regret my choice becasue this program provides high quality teaching and research guidance which are at least as good as the programs in Britain and Australia, while the cost of study and living is only one third compared to those two countries."
