Master of Arts (TESOL)

The Master of Arts (TESOL) program, taught in English, is designed for teachers with some experience who would like to further their professional development. Graduates of the program understand how languages are learned and can make informed choices of teaching methods and strategies for specific local circumstances. Applying contemporary principles of curriculum design, they can produce English course materials of professional quality. They are qualified to evaluate learning, assess English language attainment, and research educational aspects of the English language classroom.

The degree requires a minimum of 36 credits. Core courses provide 22 credits, and the remaining 14 credits can be earned in two ways:

Coursework assessment
Coursework is assessed by a combination of assignments, projects and term papers.

PART-TIME STUDY

Students who are working as well as studying can plan to complete the MA in 4 or 5 semesters. The program must be completed within 10 semesters (i.e. 5 years) of the date of enrolment.

STUDENT EXCHANGES

Students who would like to earn some of their MA course credits in Australia can study with no additional tuition fees at Deakin University or Swinburne University, under a student exchange scheme.

Exchanges can also be arranged with universities in the USA and Europe

Students who complete the core courses of the MA program either write a thesis or carry out an individual project. This is an opportunity to explore some TESOL issue in greater depth, or to develop or try out some design for teaching or learning.

COST
The cost of completing the MA (TESOL) program will depend on how long it takes. If the program is completed full-time in the minimum of three semesters, the total cost will be approximately 130,000 Thai baht (around $US 3,900). Fees are payable at the start of each semester, based on the number of courses taken.

ADMISSION
The requirements for admission to the MA (TESOL) are:
1. A bachelor's degree, preferably in English or a language-related subject, with a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4-point scale
2. A demonstrable level of proficiency in English appropriate for postgraduate study and the professional practice of English language teaching.  For non-native speakers, one of the following is expected:
a) A TOEFL score (Internet) of at least 79, or a TEOFL score (computer-based) of at least 211 taken no less than two years prior to application.
b) International English Language Test (IELTS) score of at least 6.5 taken no less than two years prior to application.
c) A score of at least 550 on the Payap University English Test.
d) A pass on a preparatory English course offered by Payap University.
3. Documented English language teaching experience of at least two years (full time).
